Manganous Oxide (Manganese (II) Oxide)

Description

Manganous oxide is one of the major sources of manganese, which is an essential trace element.
It is produced by reducing manganous dioxide (MnO2) by carbon, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, or hydrocarbons at temperatures between 400°C and 800°C.

Applications

Manganous oxide is an important component in the production of pre-mixes and mineral feeds. It plays a central role in a number of enzyme systems associated with protein and energy / glucose metabolism, as well as with reproduction. It is also necessary for normal bone structure.

In cattle, Manganese (II) is needed for cartilage development; while in poultry is plays an important role in hatchability and enhances shell quality.
